Typical day aboard the Hammerhead II
- Clients arrive at the docks, stow their gear and we motor out through the pierheads for the short run to the fishing grounds, two miles offshore.
- As we slow down to troll for salmon and trout, the Captain and First Mate set all the lines.
- The first rod “pops” and with a yell of “fish on” the First Mate grabs the rod and hands it off to a client. The fight is on! After fighting the fish to the back of the boat, the Mate nets it and throws it on ice. Suddenly another rod starts ripping line, and we’re hooked-up again!
- Fishermen (and women) take turns fighting fish, vying for that coveted award, “the Hammerhead big fish T-shirt”
- As we motor along, hooking up fish, the clients enjoy their drinks and snacks, as well as the appetizers that the captain brings.
- As the sun sets (on evening trips) we motor back to the docks. The first mate hangs the fish for a group photo and then cleans and ices down the catch. The captain prints up a picture of the catch to put in the Hammerhead frame.
- The client who catches the biggest fish is awarded the T-shirt and the framed photo. The fishermen head off with a cooler full of fish and an evening full of memories, perhaps stopping at the Port City Smokehouse to get some of the delicious salmon smoked for the trip home.
